LUMBERPORT, W.Va. (AP) — Workers have recovered the body of a worker missing since Nov. 30 in a West Virginia coal slurry pond. Consol Energy spokeswoman Lynn Seay said the body of 58-year-old Markel J. Koon of Shinnston was yesterday found inside the cab of the bulldozer he was driving when an embankment collapsed. Koon was a 37-year Consol employee.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A ruptured natural gas pipe in West Virginia had areas consistent with external corrosion, according to a federal investigator. National Transportation Safety Board member Robert Sumwalt says the pipe will undergo further analysis at an NTSB lab.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) —An appeals court is upholding the conviction of a former mine official for lying to investigators after the fatal 2010 explosion at West Virginia's Upper Big Branch mine. Hughie Elbert Stover had claimed there was no evidence he knowingly lied when he told investigators that miners weren't alerted whenever inspectors arrived. A panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled yesterday there was substantial evidence to support Stover's conviction.Tags:
