(NECN: Justin Michaels, Boston) – NECN has learned new details about what lead to Teresa Heinz Kerry’s hospitalization. The wife of Secretary of State, John Kerry, was on Nantucket when she was rushed to the hospital.

A source close to the Kerry family says family members witnessed Teresa Heinz Kerry suffering seizure-like symptoms and that's why she was rushed to the hospital.

We caught up with Secretary Kerry very briefly as he was leaving his Beacon Hill home on his way to Mass General Hospital this morning.

Seventy-four-year-old Teresa Heinz Kerry was admitted to Nantucket Cottage Hospital on Sunday. Emergency personnel got the call at 3:30 while the Kerry's were vacationing on Nantucket. Upon arrival at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, she was in critical condition. After being stabilized, she was brought to Mass General. All the while, her husband, Secretary of State John Kerry, was by her side.

Secretary Kerry and Teresa Heinz married in 1995. She was treated for breast cancer in 2009.

The Kerry's were on Nantucket after Secretary Kerry returned from a nearly two-week diplomatic trip around the world. He was planning to head back to Washington Monday, but that’s likely postponed until his wife is feeling better.
