(NECN) - Boston's British Consul General Susie Kitchens stopped by NECN's studio at Suffolk University to talk about Monday's royal birth.

"We're absolutely thrilled about the news today. It's absolutely wonderful. The baby boy came as a bit of a surprise, to be honest, because many of us thought it was going to be a girl, but the news that both mother and baby are doing well is just wonderful," she says.

Kitchens says many in the U.K. thought the baby would be a girl because of a recent change in law that would have allowed the baby, no matter what its gender, to be next in line.

"I think it would have been quite exciting to test that out," Kitchens says about the law.
