(NECN: John Moroney: Boston, Mass) - The countdown is on for a casino gambling bill in Massachusetts.

Just one week left for legislators to hammer out their differences.

And just back from his surprise trip overseas, the Governor says he's hopeful a deal can be reached.

NECN reporter John Moroney is outside the state house in Boston with more.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick says he's confident that legislators can reach a deal on that casino bill.

House and Senate negotiators have until the end of the month to pass an expanded gambling bill.

Otherwise, they'll have to try and pass the legislation again in the next session.

The main sticking point remains slots at the race tracks.

House Speaker Robert Deleo wants them.

Senate President Therese Murray and Governor Patrick don't.

The governor says it's a tough negotiation, because both sides have valid concerns.

Governor Patrick made those comments after returning from his surprise trip to the Middle East.
