(NECN: Kristen Caira, Stoneham, Mass.) - Police are following up on a new lead in a decades-old cold case Saturday. They're searching for the remains of Melanie Melanson, who disappeared more than 20 years ago, hoping the search helps them finally crack the case.

Melanie Melanson was 14 years old when she vanished after attending a party in the woods with friends. The girl's body has never been found.

Crews and search dogs will spend much of the day searching part of the Middlesex Fells Reservation in Stoneham. Earlier this week, the group Mission for the Missing says it got a tip that Melanie's remains may now be buried there.

Melanies parents and grandparents died several years ago without closure.

Kristen Caira has more on this story.
