Harpoon Brewery, a Massachusetts-based maker of craft beers is set to take a major step. They'll become employee-owned on Friday.
Company CEO and co-founder Dan Kenary joined NECN to discuss the news.
"We are effectively giving 48% of our company to our employees," said Kenary.
The decision to do so was made after Kenary's partner Rich Doyle decided to move into a part-time role.
Every year Harpoon's employees will be given a certain amount of allocated shares based on their percentage of total compensation.
Kenary says it was a much wiser idea to put the future of the company in the hands of the current employees rather than selling everything off to a larger brewer.
