Revere Set to Carry Out Tornado Cleanup Plans

Meeting held in Revere, Mass. to outline tornado cleanup plans

In the aftermath of the tornado that left Revere, Massachusetts, homeowners with blown out windows, holes in their roofs, and downed trees, many of them are stuck with a big mess and a lot of questions.

“I have no experience with that, my husband has no experience with that, we don’t know what to do and how bad it is but I know the roof is not in good shape,” said Beach Road resident Delmy Chavez.

Eastern Ave resident Richie Cinelli said, “I just want to make sure that I know exactly what I’m doing and I’m doing the right thing.”

Dozens of those residents packed into the American Legion Wednesday night where city officials and community groups tried to answer many of those questions and give homeowners advice on what to avoid.

“Everyone’s a carpenter when something like this happens and don’t give anybody money without doing any work, they’ll say I want a down payment you’ll never see them again,” said Revere Police Captain James Guido.

Public Works officials hope to be able to help pick up much of the downed trees and brush as long as it’s dragged to the curb by early next week.

They also plan to work with a waste management company the following week to pick up other debris like broken glass, siding and shingles.

“We can help out to a certain extent we really can’t come into your own backyards if you have stuff on your roofs and things like that," said Revere General Foreman Paul Argenzio.

The Red Cross encourages homeowners to open a case with them if they sustained damage in the tornado.

“Often we see after a disaster the most important thing is information and information’s sometimes difficult to get a hold of after a disaster like this and so these meetings are really important to make sure everybody is on the same page,” said Red Cross Disaster Officer Leighton Jones.
