NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) - A 46-year-old New Haven man with a loaded handgun has been arrested at a movie theater.

Officers arrived at the Criterion-Bow Tie Cinemas shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday after managers reported a man inside with a handgun.

Sung H. Hwang, waiting for the Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises," to begin, refused officers' orders to put his hands in the air. He remained in his seat, using his cell phone.

Police say he was taken into custody by force and charged with breach of peace and interfering with police. The gun was in his waistband.

Police Chief Dean M. Esserman praised the nearly 20 officers and two sergeants who responded to the call along with several Yale University police officers.

Hwang has a valid Connecticut permit to carry a pistol.
