(NECN: Josh Brogadir, Cambridge, Mass.) - A second rape has been reported near Harvard University.

At the intersection of this latest attack, there is a blue light emergency phone.

But, even so, officials say walking alone late at night is not recommended.

It's a busy intersection, surrounded by Harvard buildings, including historic Memorial Hall.

But Tuesday night at 11 p.m. at Kirkland and Oxford Streets in Cambridge, it was the scene of a heinous crime.

It's the second reported rape in less than a week in Harvard Square.

Barbara Argasinski, walking through campus, says she's concerned.

There's an emergency bluelight phone right at the intersection, but this latest attack was not reported until three days later, to Somerville Police.

It happened a few blocks away from the first one, which was on Harvard Yard, last Friday at 3:15 a.m.

The alleged victim says she was walking through the Johnston Gate, then pulled behind Massachusetts Hall.

Jessica Matteson is an adviser for Harvard grad students and said she sometimes works late.

Neither woman who was attacked is affiliated with the university, though there are extra patrols on and around campus.

Harvard Police say the investigation is in its preliminary stages but the descriptions of the alleged attackers in the two incidents do not seem to match.

Graduate student in immunology Ayano Kohlgruber said it's all about being aware of your surroundings.

And while the attacks have spread a sense of concern around campus, even these graduate students who keep late hours doing research in the science center say you have to be on the alert.

Graduate student in immunology Sydney Lavoie said she sometimes does research late, but knows if you're alone, you can call a campus number for a ride.
If you saw anything with either of these attacks, call Harvard Police at 617-495-1212.
