(NECN: Brendan Monahan, Worcester, MA) – The UMass Amherst Campus will be causing a quite a ‘stir’ when students return this year. There is a plan underway to build the world’s largest stir fry pan, and, with the help, of a local steel company, beat the current world stir fry record.

The pan they are making is over 2,500 pounds and over 14 feet wide. It will be used on September 5, 2011 for the welcome back on Amherst’s campus.

The Guinness Book of World Records has the largest stir fry as 2,319 pounds set by a South African high school in 2005. UMass is going for 3,000 pounds for chicken and vegetables.
