Fort Hood Families Relive Memories of '09 Massacre

After a soldier opened fire on fellow service members at Fort Hood on Wednesday, families near the base were forced to remember the other massacre that occurred there—the day in November 2009 when an army psychiatrist also opened fire, killing 13 and wounding more than 30. “Your first thought is, ‘Not again. Not again.’ You just can’t believe it’s happening here—again,” said Marily Considine, a preschool teacher who lives and works near the military post. Her husband Maj. John Considine had been under lockdown at the base during the previous shooting.
