Marquette partners with VA on nursing program

Jun 7, 2013 7:26pm

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette University is partnering with the Milwaukee VA Medical Center to help fill the growing need for nurses at Veterans Affairs hospitals.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has selected Marquette University College of Nursing and the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center for a five-year program. The $5 million partnership is aimed at helping prepare Marquette nursing students to promote health and healing for veterans and their families.

The program will fund 10 additional, full-time College of Nursing faculty members during the next five years. That will allow the College of Nursing to increase its freshman class size by 20 students this year and by 20 students in subsequent years, for a maximum enrollment of 150 students.

Marquette is among six nursing programs in the nation chosen for the program.
