Not a Phad: Phablet Sales Could Pass Laptops, Tablets

Phablets — the devices you get when you cross a phone with a tablet — aren't a short-lived fad, but an emerging craze on pace to surpass tablets and laptops in sales in the next two years, according to IDC, a market research firm. IDC defines a phablet as a smartphone that measures between 5.5 inches and 7 inches diagonally. Such devices are taking off in markets like China and will only get more exposure with the release of Apple's larger iPhone 6, which will reportedly measure 5.5 inches.
