Crime, Poverty Drives Honduran Kids to U.S.

Honduran children have traveled the 1,000 miles to the United States in hopes to escape the poverty and crime in their home country. The country's homicide rate was six times the global average in 2012, and according to UNICEF nearly two-thirds of the population lives below the poverty line. For many families the only savior is the dangerous trip through Mexico to the United States where children can be assaulted, trafficked or simply injured on the rough terrain. The migration of these kids has lead to the U.S. surge in unaccompanied minors since October.
