Suffolk Student Accused of ‘Cut and Paste'

Tiffany Martinez, a Dominican American and senior at the university wrote a blog post about the incident that has since gone viral.

Suffolk University says they are investigating after a student said that she was accused of plagiarism because of her ethnicity.

Tiffany Martinez, a Dominican American and senior at the university wrote a blog post about the incident that has since gone viral. She included a photo of the word 'hence' circled on her paper with the comment "That is not your word." The professor had also said “Please go back and indicate where you cut and paste.”

“What is going through that person’s mind to think someone like me won’t use that word?” asks Martinez.

The university issued the following statement in response to the incident:

“As an institution founded on the highest principles of inclusivity and respect, we take this matter very seriously. We have policies and procedures in place to respond to and investigate matters such as this one, and we are following those procedures, with the utmost care for the people involved. Suffolk University is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student and every member of our community is respected.”
