(NECN) - A neighborhood debate over a cursing cockatoo has landed in a Rhode Island courtroom.

Kathleen Melker and Craig Fontaine say Lynne Taylor's cockatoo in Warwick, R.I., has been swearing at them for years, violating an animal noise law.

Fontaine used to be married to Taylor.

The animal noise ordinance imposes a $15 fine on any pet owner who animal creates habitual noise.
Taylor is fighting the fine.

A judge has ordered her to stay away from Melker.
