(NECN) - We're following breaking news out of Chicago. The FBI  arrested a teenager who they say planned to set off a car bomb outside a downtown bar.

Agents pretending to be extremists provided 18-year-old Adel Daoud with a phony car bomb during an undercover operation last night.

The U.S district attorney's office says the device was not active and the public was never at risk.

Daoud is a U.S. citizen from the Chicago area.

He is charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.

Federal prosecutors say the FBI began monitoring him after he posted material online about a violent Jihad and the killing of Americans.
