Drunk driver kills young woman in Attleboro, Mass.

Friday, September 21, 2012, 1:37pm
(NECN: Deanna Morgan, Attleboro, Mass.) - The suspect is recovering. His name is Jason Kwolek. He's 32 years old. The Bristol County District Attorney's Office told NECN before he can be arraigned in Massachusetts, he has to go before a judge in Rhode Island. Meanwhile, the crash he allegedly caused cost Kaisha Guerrini her life.

Reality is slowly setting in for Guerrini's aunt, Ann Lussier. Less than 24 hours ago, Guerrini was a 24 year old cousin, sister, daughter, niece, and mother.

"My niece had so much going for her," says Lussier, who says her niece was in college, a sergeant in the National Guard, and mother of a three year old son.

Police say around 10:30 pm Thursday  night, the suspect, Kwolek, crossed over the center lines in his Jeep as he was driving south on North Main St. near Wamsutta Rd. in Attleboro. He drove head-on into the path of the Saturn being driven by Guerinni. They say Kwolek refused a chemical breath test at the scene.

Guerrini's mother, Tina, wouldn't comment on camera. Lussier says her sister is too sad to talk - too sad to get out of bed. But, Lussier says her sister has been speaking with parents she knows, giving them advice.

"Hug your kids...I never had a chance...before I lost her [Kristen]."

A neighbor in the Rhode Island community where Kwolek lives says they believe he is a husband and father. Attleboro Police don't know the extent of his injuries, and say he won't be arraigned until he's released from the hospital. As of Friday afternoon, he hadn't been. Once in Massachusetts, he faces charges of:

1) Operating a Motor Vehicle under the influence of alcoholic
2) Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
3) Motor Vehicle Homicide while under the influence of alcoholic beverage and operating negligently
4) Speeding
5) Marked Lanes Violation
