Governors Hope to Strike Deal With Demoulas Family to End Market Basket Feud

Gov. Deval Patrick and Gov. Maggie Hassan entered talks with Demoulas Family

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick and New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan spent the weekend seeking an end to the bitter Market Basket family feud.

Store employees and customers are entering their fifth week of protesting, but it appears as if there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Talks of a deal that would end the saga are in the works.

A resolution could be closer than ever. Patrick and Hassan spent the day Sunday brokering a sale between the two sides of the Demoulas family, according to the Boston Globe.

The sides have made "real progress" regarding the terms of the sale, according to a statement issued by a Patrick spokesperson. Arthur T. and Arthur S. Demoulas were both reportedly present at the negotiations.

"Governor Hassan and Governor Patrick met at length on Sunday evening with interested parties in the Market Basket situation. The parties have made real progress on the terms of the sale and operating control of the company, and the governors are encouraged that a resolution may be within reach."

Neither Demoulas cousin has issued a comment in regards to the negotiations.

Arthur T. was ousted from his position back in June. Since then, a series of rallies and protests have taken place. Employees refuse to return to work until their beloved CEO comes back.
