Housing Authority Chief Charged with Stealing Meds

Stoughton Housing Authority executive director has been charged with stealing prescription pain medications of an elderly woman who lived in one of the authority's facilities.

The executive director of the Stoughton Housing Authority has been charged with stealing the prescription pain medications of a woman in her 90s who lived in one of the authority's facilities.

Gregory Bartlett pleaded not guilty on Monday in Stoughton District Court to charges of larceny from a building, breaking and entering during the daytime, theft of a controlled substance from a person authorized to possess it, and larceny of property valued at more than $250 from a person over 65 years of age.

Bail was set at $2,500 cash or $25,000 surety, with conditions of release that he stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim of the theft, remain drug and alcohol free, and not work with the elderly or for the Stoughton Housing Authority while on bail.

The 57-year-old Bartlett turned himself in. He is being held without bail pending arraignment.

Bartlett was caught by the woman's daughter, who became suspicious because her mother's Vicodin was disappearing. She allegedly caught Bartlett on a video surveillance system set up in the victim's unit, with the camera trained on the night stand where the pills were kept.

He is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 18 for a pre-trial conference.
