(NECN) - Doug Handler, Chief US Economist for IHS Global Insight joined NECN to speak about how much the federal government shutdown will affect the US economy.

Handler explained where his numerical predictions came from.

“That number was really estimated from the lost output of the government workers. The one thing that we really do know happens with the shutdown is government workers won’t come to their offices, they won’t be doing their thing, they won’t be providing services to the economy,” Handler explained.

In addition, Handler discusses his take on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on the economy.
