Money Matters: Netflix reportedly in talks with cable companies

(NECN) - Netflix subscribers may soon have another way to view content from the on-line movie distributor. According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix is in talks with several cable companies, including Comcast, to make its streaming video service available through the companies’ cable boxes. Talks are reportedly in the early stages with no deal expected anytime soon. Netflix has already partnered with two European cable companies to provide its streaming service. Comcast is the parent company for NECN.

After 155 years of staying closed on Thanksgiving, it looks like Macy's may break tradition this year. According to store employees, the department store will be open for shoppers Thanksgiving night. For the last two years, Macy's has opened its stores nationwide at midnight for Black Friday. Other retailers that open for at least part of Thanksgiving include Walmart, Gap, Sears and Target.

Apple says it has recently seen a rush of resales of its iPads. People are trading in their old iPads for a new one expected out later this month. According to, the first 10 days of October show a 246-percent increase in the number of iPad trade ins compared to this time last year. And a higher percentage of those trade-ins are newer versions of the iPad.

Cruise prices are at all-time lows. Reasons for the discount: it's off-season. Plus, ships are repositioning from chillier to warmer regions of the world. And also behind the bargains this year is some bad publicity the industry's gotten recently. Carnival Cruise Line is offering prices as low as 35-dollars a night while Royal Caribbean has taken off as much as a thousand dollars off some trips.
