(NECN/AP) - The delayed dedication ceremony for the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington was held on Sunday morning.
Thousands of people gathered to give the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial a proper dedication. Some started lining up before dawn.
Singer Aretha Franklin, poet Nikki Giovanni, and President Barack Obama were among those honoring the legacy of the nation's foremost civil rights leader.
An earlier ceremony planned for August had to be postponed because of Hurricane Irene. More than 250,000 were expected for that event.
King's daughter, Bernice, was among the speakers at Sunday's ceremony. She mentioned the Watch the attached video to catch some of the speech.
