New Mexico Air Force Base, Schools Locked Down for Bubble Wrap

Gunshots forced three schools, a hospital, and an air force base to be locked down for almost an hour on Wednesday, NBC News reported.

Thursday night, it was disclosed there were no gunshots, instead, the sound came from bubble wrap.

The base lifted the lockdown Wednesday afternoon, saying forces “could not substantiate the claims of gunfire.” A spokeswoman for the base told NBC station KOB on Thursday that the bangs came from someone popping “heavy duty” bubble wrap.

The person who popped the bubble wrap came forward, telling security forces: "Hey, I think that was me. It was louder than I expected," according to the Albuquerque Journal.
