(NECN: Kathryn Sotnik, Medford, Mass.) - Fans got to brush elbows with a Boston Red Sox star Tuesday in Medford, Mass.

Catcher Jared Saltalamacchia made an appearance at a Modell's Sporting Goods for an autograph signing, and hundreds of fans lined up.

It was a grand entrance at Modell's for hte baseball player with the longest name in Major League Baseball history.

"I love Salty," Red Sox fan Margaret Flynn says. "I love the beard. He can keep it as long as he signs my ball."

There were so many people in line at Modell's Tuesday night that Sox fans waited for hours to get into the store and score an autograph.

"I'm feeling pretty great, because, I mean, David Ortiz in this season, he's great. Think they're going to win," Red Sox fan James Frederick says.

"This is something that you just never take for granted. You never know when you're going to get this opportunity again, so when you finally do get that opportunity, you got to take advantage of it," Saltalamacchia says.

And Sox fans are treasuring every moment of this World Series experience - cherishing the gear and autographs.

One thing we had to ask Salty was if he planned to shave his beard.

"I don't know. I kind of like it. I know my wife is not big on it. I don't know, my kids might like it," he says.
