BOSTON (AP) — The Red Sox can take a commanding 2-0 lead in the World Series with another win tonight at Fenway Park. The Sox routed St. Louis 8-1 last night in Game 1. John Lackey gets the start for Boston tonight against the Cardinals' rookie phenom Michael Wacha.

BOSTON (AP) — Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said he will probably start Jake Peavy in Game 3 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, followed by Clay Buchholz in Game 4. Farrell said after Boston's 8-1 victory in Game 1 last night that he will likely give Buchholz another day of rest.

BOSTON (AP) — Cardinals right fielder Carlos Beltran is described as "day-to-day" after leaving Game 1 of the World Series in the third inning with bruised ribs after banging into the bullpen fence to rob David Ortiz of a grand slam. Beltran went back against the low wall and caught Ortiz's drive with the bases loaded for the second out in the second inning last night.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) —Sabres enforcer John Scott has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL pending a disciplinary hearing for a blindside hit to the head that leveled Boston Bruins forward Lou Eriksson. Scott has been given the opportunity to attend an in-person hearing, which is offered when a suspension has the potential to exceed five games. Eriksson remains in Buffalo under observation.

BOSTON (AP) — The Bruins host the Sharks tonight after knocking off the Sabres 5-2 in Buffalo Wednesday. San Jose is the NHL's last team left without a regulation loss and they haven't lost in regulation at Boston in over a decade. The Sharks lead the NHL with 17 points. Boston backup goalie Chad Johnson made his debut last night. Tukka Rask is expected to be back in the net tonight.

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — A cousin of Aaron Hernandez is due to appear in a Massachusetts court in connection with the murder case against the former Patriot. A pre-trial conference for Tanya Singleton is scheduled for this afternoon in Fall River Superior Court. Singleton has pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal contempt and conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Rob Gronkowski says he no longer wants to discuss his health. After making his season debut Sunday against the New York Jets, catching eight passes for 114 yards in the Patriots' 30-27 overtime loss, Gronkowski finally is ready to put behind him all those questions he was asked about injuries and timetables.

BOSTON (AP) — Fans eager to see the Red Sox take on the Cardinals in Game 1 of this year's World Series are shrugging off stepped-up security in a city still reeling from the bombings at the Boston Marathon. Ticket-holders were asked to leave backpacks at home last night, and security personnel used metal-detecting wands to screen ticket-holders entering Fenway Park.
