(NECN: Erick Weber) – What are the makings of a great mayor?

If you look hard enough, the physical and metaphorical signs can be seen all around the city.

One person said, “Downtown has been reinvented. People now want to live within walking distance of where they work and they could care less about a car.”

For the past 20 years, Boston Mayor Tom Menino has been his own self-described urban mechanic, building up Boston to the thriving metropolis we know today.

Menino’s popularity has its roots the demeanor that evokes the everyman.  He’s a mayor truly of, by and for the people he serves.
