Japan on Alert as Typhoon Stays on Course

The U.S. military has moved 61 aircraft from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan in advance of a typhoon which is expected to bring damaging winds and a dangerous surge on Tuesday local time (late Monday ET), NBC News reported. Typhoon Neoguri's winds reached an estimated 150 mph Sunday, and was dubbed a "super typhoon" by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, although after dropping to winds of 125 mph, the typhoon lost its "super" status. Not as powerful as Typhoon Haiyan, which killed thousands in the Philippines last year, an emergency high sea warning for Okinawa island has been issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
