(NECN) - Police officers wear bullet-proof vests, so why shouldn't their faithful K-9 companions wear them, too? One reason is the cost, but a new program works to overcome that obstacle.

Jake the Vet joins "The Morning Show" to discuss Vested Interest in K-9s, Inc., a non-profit fundraising organization dedicated to providing bullet and stab protective vests for law enforcement K-9s throughout the U.S.

Each vest costs $1,006.

Watch the attached video to learn more about the program.

To donate, visit Vested Interest online, or call: 508-824-6978.

WellPet donated money for the vests. To visit their Web site, click here: http://www.wellpet.com/index.aspx
