Woman Arrested in Hit-and-Run Crash That Killed 4-Year-Old

A Massachusetts woman has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed a 4-year-old boy on Easter Sunday last month.

Milford police confirm 54-year-old Melissa Knight, of 88 Depot St. in Milford, was arrested in Newton after leaving work at Lasell College on Thursday. She faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury and death, and obstruction of justice.

Knight is accused of hitting 4-year-old Jonathan Loja on April 16 while he was playing outside at an Easter BBQ on Water Street.

Investigators say after her Chevy Traerse appeared on the news, she showed up at the police department saying she was on Water Street that day, but didn't hit anyone. She also claimed the damage on her car was from a tree branch during the winter.

Police say so far there is no evidence Knight was drinking at the time, and that they believe she knew what happened because witnresses say she stopped on a side street before leaving the sene.

Details on Knight's arraignment are pending, along with attorney information.
