Conn. cities get grants for green space, gardens

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Almost $340,000 is being divided between seven Connecticut cities to help them create and maintain green space and community gardens.

The money is part of a program that started in 2007. It's meant to ensure that natural space is available for people to enjoy amid the heavy development in Connecticut's urban areas.

The new grants announced last week are going to projects in Bridgeport, Bristol, New Haven, New London, Hartford, Norwalk and Windham.

The announcements came at the same time that state officials announced $10.4 million in grants to 40 municipalities to preserve open space and watershed land.
