BARTON, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont man has pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after a single-car crash that left his passenger critically injured.

Police said the crash happened over the weekend in Barton. After receiving calls from concerned passers-by, police found 27-year-old passenger Lauren Fluegge in the car. She was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police arrested 23-year-old Zachary Labor of Barton, saying he left without properly notifying emergency officials about Fluegge. Labor said he went down the road to call his cousin for help.

The Caledonian Record reports (http://bit.ly/Ifbv27) prosecutors asked for a $100,000 bail because Labor has a criminal record. Defense attorney Julianne Woolard said Labor was out on parole, and that this incident would likely result in his parole being revoked. Bail was set at $25,000.
