(NECN) - Suffolk Downs and Mohegan Sun are officially joining forces for a casino bid in Revere, Mass.

Suffolk Downs had been searching for a new partner since dropping Caesars from its bid.

This is still far from a done deal.

The two sides still must pitch the proposal to the Mass. Gaming Commission by December 31.

And because East Boston voters rejected a Suffolk Downs casino, the track has to get approval from the gaming commission and Revere to move the proposed casino to the Revere portion of the Suffolk Downs property.

“This is a historic day for the City of Revere, Suffolk Downs and all of New England,” said Richard Fields, principal owner of Suffolk Downs. “By choosing Mohegan Sun as our resort casino developer and operator, we bring new energy and excitement to our pursuit of a gaming license – and a leader and premier brand in resort casino gaming that has been hugely successful in New England for 17 years.”
