BOSTON (AP) — A 16-year-old student at a Boston high school has been arrested after bringing a gun to school.

The school department said in a statement that the handgun brought to Jeremiah Burke High School on Monday morning was not loaded, but that the student also brought a small amount of ammunition.

The gun was found at about 9 a.m. No one was hurt.

A schools spokesman says administrators followed appropriate procedures to ensure the safety of all students and staff in the building and the day carried on without further interruption. He did not know why the student brought the gun to school.

The teen was arraigned on juvenile counts of possessing a firearm and ammunition. A judge set $1,000 cash bail and ordered him to remain at home under electronic monitoring if he is released.
