(NECN) – In Red Sox news, Shane Victorino is officially here.

What does it mean?

Comcast SportsNet’s Kevin Walsh says it means a lot of energy and some spice coming in. It shores up right field and is insurance in the event that Jacoby Ellsbury is traded.

Red Sox say they are committed, but Ellsbury kind of seems like a goner, Walsh says.

Hold ups are money and bad blood from injuries a couple of years ago.

Walsh says they overpaid at three years for $39 million.

He says fans will love Victorino.

“He is an absolute sonic boom, plays the game right. After a year of watching vanilla ice cream and grass grow, this is sorely needed.”

What about Ryan Dempster?

Walsh says he has struggled but he’s an innings eater. His ERA against the Yankees is a real problem.

Just days after beating down the Texans, another big team is coming to face Patriots at Gillette.

Walsh says it could be a preview of the Super Bowl.
