Federal health officials add Mass. to widespread flu list

(NECN: Kristen Caira) - Healthy, young people do not generally consider flu concerns. But this year, the Centers for Disease Control has received a number of reports of severe respiratory illness among young and middle-aged adults.

Massachusetts General Hospital doctors confirm flu season is officially underway here, and patients are streaming in.

Last year, flu season arrived early. This year, it's right on schedule, typically from late December to early January, with the same old symptoms.

So to avoid the flu, and the uncomfortable confirmation nose swab, it may be time to get your shot.
