Holiday weekend review: Australia

(NECN) - Tom Meek, movie critic for the Boston Phoenix, sits down with Karen Swensen of Good Morning Live to give his thoughts on the movies opening this Thanksgiving weekend -- Australia, Four Christmases and Milk.

Australia The movie wants to be epic, but the special effects are a little cheesy. The movie is nearly 3 hours long, but could have gone for more of a saga feel. Luckily, the character pieces drive the movie well.

Four Christmases Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon play a couple that travels to each of four families (both parents are divorced). Each situation is trumps the other a little bit. It is a somewhat dark comedy meant for adults.

Milk Starring Sean Penn, this movie centers on Harvey Milk, the first openly gay politician elected to office. This movie is more epic than Australia. Worthy of some Oscar nominations.
