(NECN/WCHS: Marsh Fork, W. Va.) - State police arrested more than two dozen people during an anti-mountain top removal protest in West Virginia on Tuesday.
Among those arrested were actress and environmentalist Daryl Hannah and former West Virginia secretary of state Ken Hechler.
Protesters were calling for an end to mountain top removal mining.
Daryl Hannah said that while service mining utilizes one natural resource it destroys another.
Tensions between activists and miners were high during the rally at March Fork Elementary.
Those arrested were charged with obstructing an officer and impeding traffic after sitting in the middle of a road in front of the Massey Energy's Goals Coal preparation plant.
