(NECN: North Hollywood, CA) - The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced nominations for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards on Thursday in north Hollywood, California.
Kristin Chenoweth from "Pushing Daisies" and Neil Patrick Harris from "How I Met Your Mother" made the announcement with John Shaffner, Chairman and CEO, Academy of Television Arts & Sciences at 8:40 PT.
Two new shows "Damages" and "Mad Men" become the first series from a basic cable network to receive a nomination for outstanding drama series.
The 60th Primetime Emmys will air on September 21 at 8 P.M. ET from the new NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles.

AMC's "Mad Men," a drama about the advertising world, and FX's
legal thriller "Damages" are among the nominees announced today
for best-series.
"Lost" joined "Mad Men" and "Damages" in the best-drama
series category that also includes "Boston Legal, "Dexter" and
"House."
"John Adams," HBO's prestige historical drama about one of
America's founding fathers, was the overall frontrunner with 23
bids.
"30 Rock," honored as best comedy series last year, was the
top nominee among sitcoms with 17 bids.
"The Wire," the critically acclaimed HBO drama about police
and drug dealers in Baltimore, lost its last shot at ending years
of Emmy snubs after wrapping
