| July 1, 2008 Hollywood producers make final offer to actors
|
(NECN/ABC) - The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers calls it their last best offer to the Screen Actors Guild. In a statement, the AMPTP says
quote: "our industry is now in a de facto strike, with film production virtually shut down and television production now seriously threatened" -- a strong statement according to the SAG president.
The major studios say the proposed deal offers more than $250 million in additional compensation to guild members over three years. The guild says the offer doesn't address some key issues important to actors -- such as more money from new media -- and increases in DVD residuals. But, SAG isn't just dueling with the studios -- it's also feuding with fellow actors union AFTRA -- the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. For years, both unions negotiated their contracts with the studios together -- until this year. SAG is pressuring members who belong to both unions to vote against ratifying AFTRA's new contract.
ABC's Leslie Miller has the latest.
