(Vicki Croke, NECN: Grafton, MA) - If you've ever been to the Cummings School of veterinary medicine at Tufts University, you know they love their animals. But one goose has stolen the hearts of many. His name is Boswell, and he's battling a rare form of cancer.
Even at a hospital accustomed to seeing its share of odd ducks, Boswell stands out.
Partly, it's his swagger and charisma ...
But it's also his story.
The 2-year-old Toulouse gray goose is battling cancer, and not for the first time in his life.
Everyone at the hospital has fallen in love with the brave, handsome goose who's been walking these hallways for the past few months receiving radiation and chemotherapy. Boswell has osteosarcoma -- a painful bone cancer in his left leg. And all just months after having gone through many surgeries for a tumor in his trachea. His owner, Mark Podlaseck has been by his side through it all.
Two years ago when Mark picked him up at feed store for $8 he never would have imagined the bond that would form between them.
They are best friends. They hang out together. Kayake together. Even read together
Something Mark says helps Boswell through his sickest times.
The communication between them is nearly magical....
Today they read and wait for results of Boswell's latest blood test.
Dr. Meyer has been Boswell's vet through the entire ordeal. When the blood tests are good, Boswell is cleared for Chemo.

As Boswell has the carbo platin injected into his good leg, Mark waits outside and no doubt worries --
Moments later the two are reunited.
It's been a rocky road, but the news today is good ...
The treatment is expensive -- Mark has spent $20k , but that's not what drives the decisions. Mark worries more about the quality of life of his companion.
It seems that Boswell isn't just showing us what's possible in veterinary medicine, he's teaching us something about love too.
