(NECN: Brian Burnell, Northampton, Mass.) - The Smith Museum of Art in Northampton, Massachusetts has exciting works constantly moving in and out. But, among its impressive permanent collection are two pieces that are unique, even for the art world.
Two of the restrooms are artist-designed -- works of art in their own right -- and they are in the America's Best Restroom contest, sponsored by the uniform company Cintas. When this part of the museum was renovated five years ago, two artists were commissioned to do these bathrooms.
Sandy Skoglund, who's sculpture radioactive cats is among the permanent collection, did the men's room. And, Boston-based artist Ellen Driscoll did the ladies room.
If you can't get here to see these fashionable bathrooms in person, no worries. Just click here! There is a photographic tour of all the restrooms in the running and you can vote for your favorite. Voting closes July 31.
