(NECN: New York) - The annual Nathan's 4th of July hot dog eating contest at New York's Coney Island had a couple of twists, today. Contestants only had to stuff themselves for 10 minutes instead of 12. Officials made that change after finding historical records that showed 10 minutes was the original time of the contest.
But 10 minutes wasn't enough to decide a winner. Defending champion Joey Chestnut and 6-time champion Takeru Kobayashi each wolfed down 59 hot dogs in the regulation time.
That led to a 5 hot dog "eat off." First to get them down won and in the end, defending champion Joey Chestnut held up the mustard belt as the 2008 Nathan's hot dog eating champion.
