Wedding Week: "Cakes for Occasions"


(NECN) - This week on Good Morning Live is Wedding Week!

Over the next five days, we'll give you advice on everything from financing your wedding to finding the best dress to compliment your figure.

We'll teach you how to ballroom dance in no time. Go over the finer points of wedding etiquette and bring you the latest trends on gowns and cakes.

And speaking of cakes, what a sweet way to start the week.

In this first segment we are joined by Kelly Delaney, owner of Cakes for Occasions in Danvers, Massachusetts.

She's been featured on National TV for her delicious works of art.

2008 Wedding Cake Trends Brides are no longer afraid of using color when it comes to their cake, incorporating their theme and even opting for more distinct, flavors to really make it their own….. Designs & Colors:

1. Simply elegant styles w/ clean lines and fresh flowers of all colors (hydrangeas, roses, gerbera daisies, orchids, etc).

2. Bright, vivid color accents - brides are selecting cakes with vivid accent colors. Popular this season are hot pinks, tangerine oranges and apple greens.

3. Nautical inspiration - especially in New England, this is a popular theme for weddings. Crisp navy blues and white are especially suited for this. Cakes can be adorned with starfish, sailors' knots, lighthouses and more - think beyond seashells.

4. Browns in various hues - Taupe, Mocha & Chocolate - this is still a very popular trend

and this color works beautifully throughout the year. Pair it with pink or lilac for the spring and summer, golden yellows and oranges for the fall and cool blues and sage green for winter.

Flavors & Serving Options

5. Buffet stations - wedding cake can be made with several different flavors allowing guests to select their favorites. Brides are also moving beyond traditional wedding cake by opting for cupcake cakes or by incorporating pastries and cookies.

6. Unique flavor combinations - many brides are searching for distinctive flavors to set their cake apart from the rest. Our Raspberry Key Lime and Chocolate Paradise are two new flavors that have been extremely popular this season. We also have a line of gourmet cupcakes such as our Strawberry Grand Marnier, which are delicious and make a beautiful presentation.
