NotifyMD brings 200 jobs to Maine

(Amy Sinclair, NECN: Winthrop, Maine) - Like so many other towns, Winthrop, Maine is hurting. Storefronts are boarded up, available office space sits empty, people are out of work.

Staci: "all my neighbors they're looking for work my two friends just got laid off it's been tough."

It's no wonder the governor of Maine had a bag full of presents and plenty of praise for "notify MD's " president and CEO.

Gov: "on behalf of Maine and Winthrop thanks for choosing us and good luck."

Based in Nashville Tennessee, "NotifyMD" runs six calls centers that serve medical practices and hospitals around the country. The center that will open here on the site of an old textile mill will be the company's seventh in the country and second here in Maine.

Gary: 'we're here in Winthrop to serve a small community and and to become the number one employer in the region."

They plan to hire at least 200 workers over the next two years. The company's president says they chose Maine-again-- because of its talent pool.

Gary: We need super Eq's that's emotional intelligence empathy. You can get high eqs in small communities that you can't get in NYC."

In this region, jobs that don't require a college education, start at 10 fifty an hour and come with health care and a 401k plan are more than welcome.

StaciI: "it would be awesome especially benefits we need it. no question about it

Given the state of the economy, NotifyMD’s

expansion plans are noteworthy to say the least, but the company's CEO says he has no concerns about making this new call center fly."

Ferguson says his company is--in his words-- extremely profitable.

Gary: "interestingly we already have the contracts to support the facility so we're anxious about opening and opening quickly."

So at least on this day, instead of bad news on the doorstep, one company is coming to Maine--offering jobs with benefits.
