| November 19, 2008 Frank Abagnale's ID theft advice
|
(NECN) - In one 5-year period, Frank Abagnale cashed $2.5 million in fraudulent checks in every state and 26 foreign countries.
Between the ages of 16 and 21, he conned people into believing he was a pilot, an attorney, a college professor and a doctor.
His story was told in the movie Catch Me if You Can starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
According to Abagnale, stealing someone's identity was much tougher in the times that he did it. Nowadays, personal information is just a click away on the computer.
Do not use wireless online banking, because that is easily picked up by outsiders.
Abagnale also suggests using a credit card when buying online, rather than a debit card. It is easier to dispute a charge if the product is not delivered.
