(NECN: Boston, Mass.) - Breaking up is hard to do, but we aren't talking about romantic relationships. It seems the economic downturn has led to a lot of broken hearts in the professional world.

Corporate culture has us working long days with strangers who, over time, become like spouses. With new rounds of layoffs announced by the day, more people are not only mourning the loss of a paycheck but also the absence of some of the most intimate relationships in their lives.
