Commercial flights return to Worcester


(Katie Daly, NECN: Worcester, MA) - All is quiet at Worcester Regional Airport. But tomorrow some expect that to change.

“There is a potential for 600 people a day just with this”

Saturday Direct Air will begin nonstop service from Worcester to Orlando and Punta Gorda Florida, three times a week. Doug Robinson is busy getting ready for the inaugural flight. He's the general manager for Swiss Port. The aviation company that will maintain Direct Air's service by providing ticket agents and baggage handlers. He says the commercial service is a huge boost for the airport,

The airport hasn't had commercial air service since Allegiant Air left the city two years ago. Despite that failure, Ed Warneck president of Direct Air says landing in Worcester was an easy choice.

Direct Air has offered introductory rates as low as 88 dollars each way...luring many customers.

Sharyn Williams, marketing director at the Worcester Chamber of Commerce says based on early sales, she believes that Direct Air will thrive in Worcester.
