(Colleen Bamford, NECN: Worcester, MA) - Shoppers aren't just looking for flat screen TVs and the latest fashions. Black Friday also means finding that perfect Christmas Tree.
A wet start to the Christmas tree sales season. Almost as many umbrellas as pines dot the landscape at Evergreen Tree farm in Sterling, Massachusetts.
Fortunately for owner Bill Gauld the rain isn't dampening sales. Evergreen is seeing a lot of green.
"People will come out regardless. We're fortunate at our farm and most good farms we usually sell out of our trees by mid-December."
At 35 to 50 dollars a pop, holiday Christmas tree sales total nearly two million dollars in Massachusetts each year. Worcester County alone brings in about 500 thousand dollars.
Over 31 million Americans will have real trees in their home this holiday, up from 28 million last year. But most get them from these temporary sales spots set up in places like parking lots. To ensure freshness check where its been shipped in from.
