Color marketing lures in the shoppers

(Katie Daly, NECN: Worcester, MA) - While the economy looks bleak, stores are starting to look more vibrant.

“While we merchandise the floor, we are merchandising with more colors because that's what the customers are asking for.”

Traditionally consumers had the choice between black and white for their gadgets. But a new report says bright colored items like washers, dryers and vacuum cleaners have become hot sellers. That has stores like Percy’s in Worcester stocking up on their reds and blues.

“People come in looking for something in a certain brand then ask do you have it in a certain color....years ago it was just in white”

As customers ask for more colors, businesses have responded. At grand wireless in Auburn, purple and blue phones have lured customers into the store.

“Color marketing its everything these days its worked well for the manufactures they are taking that into consideration.”

Store manager Steve Hart says if they don't sell a phone in the color you want, they have the accessories to make it happen.

“Accessories is a big part of our business -most accessories come in 4 to 5 different colors.”

“There is a psychological effect-there is a cheerfulness that comes with colors especially the new iPod nanos that are bright and vibrant colors.”
